Comments: Living genera assigned to two subtribes by Vrba (1997), Alcelaphini (including Alcelaphus, Beatragus, and Connochaetes) and Damaliscini (includes only Damaliscus), but retention of flehmen behavior, lost in Alcelaphus and Damaliscus (Estes, 1999), and karyology suggests Beatragus is sister group of Alcelaphus plus Damaliscus (Kumamoto et al., 1996; Robinson et al., 1991)
