Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2015) notes a spelling issue regarding Acarana Gray 1833 vs. Aracana Gray 1838. Aracana 'Dates to Gray 1833 [ref. 1878] as Acarana,' and 'is apparently an incorrect subsequent spelling of Acarana and not a new genus name.' Nonetheless, he states that Aracana is 'Regarded as valid but with spelling Aracana'
