Nelson (1994) notes that some authors have placed the caproids within the Perciformes (and elsewhere), but provisionally retains them in the Zeiformes. Tyler et al. (2003) exclude the caproids from the Zeiformes, but it is not yet clear where they belong, so for the moment ITIS retains them in the Zeiformes
