Quintero & Shear (2016) proposed the suppression of the snake family group name Charinidae Gray, 1849 (TSN 951206) to conserve the arachnid family group name Charinidae Quintero, 1986 (TSN 690758), but see also Savage & Crother (2017) and Pyron (2017) for other proposed solutions. The Commission ruled (in Opinion 2454 (Case 3688), published 30 April 2020) that the snake family name was emended to Charinaidae to remove the homonymy
