Chlosyne acastus: Comments
Comment:
Although Chlosyne acastus sterope (W. H. Edwards, 1870) has priority over the species Chlosyne acastus (W. H. Edwards, 1874), the latter has long been in use, and changing the species name to C. sterope "would create an unnecessary and cumbersome reassignment of names," including those of all the subspecies. Therefore Pelham (2008) indicated "A paper is being prepared to cite the evidence for implementation of Code Article 81.2.3, to grant acastus status as a nomen protectum." Therefore current usage will be maintained for now
