Comments: Equalivalent to the 2n=46 cytotype of Berry and Baker (1972) and Lee and Baker (1987), shown by mitochondrial DNA analysis to be phylogenetically separate from the 2n=42 cytotype of these authors (DeWalt et al., 1993a), which is herein referred to as C. goldmani. Largely coincides to the 'excelsus subspecies-group' of Russell (1968b), but contains some taxa in his 'subnubilis subspecies-group (see Davidow-Henry et al., 1989, Mammalian Species No. 338).
