According to Larson et al. (2000: 272), Hydroporus discicollis Say, 1834 was described from a single specimen which is lost. This name is often associated with H. dichrous Melsheimer, 1844 and if these two names are synonyms then H. discicollis is the older name. But the description is inadequate to determine its application to any species. Nevertheless, Nilsson & Hájek (2021) list the species as questionably valid & not assigned to any of the multiple species groups in Hydroporus
