Originally published by Spinola as Megachile melatronicha but amended by Reed (1892) and Dalla Torre (1896) to Megachile melanotricha. Moure's Bee Catalogue states, "This emendation has been adopted by subsequent authors and can be considered in prevailing usage, therefore, making it a justified emendation according to ICZN Art. 33.2.3.1"
