Ophiogomphus occidentis: Comments
Comment:
Sometimes dated to 1882, but that work (Nature, vol. 27, no. 686, Dec. 21, 1882, p. 173, a "letter to the editor"), which discusses "the nympha of a new species of Ophiogomphus," does not make any name available, so the name is attributable to the 1885 work. Additionally, although Hagen gives this as "Ophiogomphus occidentis" and uses "nov. sp." (p. 259), he also treats Ophiogomphus as a subgenus of Gomphus (pp. 250 & 257), so the original genus is in fact Gomphus, not Ophiogomphus
