Comment:
See Gill & Hutchins (2002). Balistes japonicus Walbaum 1792 is a senior primary homonym of Balistes japonicus Tilesius 1809. The authors also consider the former a nomen oblitum in synonymy under Stephanolepis cirrhifer (Temminck & Schlegel, 1850), and the latter is placed in synonymy under Paramonacanthus oblongus (Temminck & Schlegel, 1850)
