Baron's Hermit Phaethornis baroni was treated as conspecific with Long-billed Hermit P. longirostris following SACC (136). Restoration of species status as Ecuadorian Hermit deserves reconsideration given morphological distinctions, vocal differences (not documented), allopatric range, and advances in the taxonomy of this species complex (Ridgely and Greenfield 2001, HBW) (IOC List v11.1)
