Comments: Sister species of P. limatus according to phylogenetic analysis of abbreviated cytochrome b sequences (Spotorno et al., 2001). The basis for the reported presence of P. amicus in Argentina (Heinonen Fortabat and Chebez, 1997; Massoia and Donadío, 1990) has been reidentified as an example of Oligoryzomys chacoensis (Galliari et al., 1996)
