Comments: One of the largest-bodied species of Praomys in the P. tullbergi group. Populations formerly included in P. morio (F. Petter, 1965; Matthey, 1965), P. lukolelae (F. Petter, 1975; Genest-Villard, 1980; Granjon, 1991; Chevret et al., 1994), or considered distinct but unnamed (Musser and Carleton, 1993). Phylogenetic affinities discussed by Van der Straeten et al.
