Comment:
The World Thrips database gives Proscirtothrips longipennis (D. L. Crawford, 1910) as a senior synonym of Proscirtothrips zeae (Moulton, 1911). Bhatti (1978) had preferred the available name longipennis (p. 103) as the valid name for this species, however since longipennis was considered a secondary homonym of Scirtothrips longipennis (Bagnall, 1909) and replaced before 1961 (see O'Neill, 1955), and the substitute name (zeae) remains in use, under ICZN Article 59.3, longipennis is permanently invalid
