Comment:
In the original description, Richters (1980) used "Echiniscus novazeelandiae n. sp." (once with a hyphenation, several times without). This epithet spelling (-ee-) has been used in a number of later works, and a variant spelling (-e-) has also been used in a number of works, but it is not clear that the variant spelling should be used under the current International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. More research may be required to definitively establish whether there is a sound basis for using this modified spelling, but for the time being ITIS will follow Guidetti & Bertolani (2005) in this
