Comment:
Lawrence and Newton (1995) use Ptinidae as a subfamily under Anobiidae, but also note "Ptinidae Latreille (1802: 112) has priority over Anobiidae [Fleming, 1821: 50] if the two families are combined as done here" (p. 864). Philips (2000) suggests that the ptinines and anobiids should be classified as sister taxa at the same hierarchical level, either as subfamilies of Bostrichidae or as families. Philips and Foster (2004) consider the Ptinidae and Anobiidae as distinct families
