Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2003) notes that some recent authors consider Siniperca roulei Wu 1930 to be valid as Coreosiniperca roulei (Wu 1930), while others authors consider it to be valid as S. roulei Wu 1930. He further notes that Coreosiniperca Fang & Chong 1932 was originally proposed as a subgenus of Siniperca Gill 1862, but considers it as a synonym of that genus (noting also that its family placement may be uncertain). More work appears to be needed to resolve the status of roulei
