Comment:
Thor (1935:112) originally gave the subfamily name Stygothrombiinae, based on the type genus Stygothrombium, so he viewed the stem as Stygothrombi-, in which case the family name would be Stygothrombiidae, and the superfamily name Stygothrombioidea. Some have treated the stem as 'Stygothrombidi-' (yielding a family name spelled 'Stygothrombidiidae', and a superfamily name '), 'Stygothrombidioidea'), but it is not clear that this is a justified emendation. Until this issue is further clarified, ITIS is retaining the original spelling (with appropriate rank endings)
