Apparently described as a variety, Tanystylum cavidorsum var. steatopygidium, by Hedgpeth (1961: 12-14, fig. 9a-f). If this was indeed published in 1961 then per ICZN Art. 45.6.33 it is deemed to be infrasubspecific, and therefore unavailable (Art. 45.5). If it was published in 1960 then it would only be available if, under Art. 45.6.4.1, before 1985, it was either 'adopted as the valid name of a species or subspecies or was treated as a senior homonym.' The specific year of publication has not been investigated by ITIS, so caution is indicated in use of this name
