Comment:
The original spelling was given by Scourfield as "spitsbergensis," (and he consistently spelled the location "Spitsbergen" in that work) which is also the spelling used in many major tardigrade works. For some reason Guidetti & Bertolani (2005) have spelled it "spitzbergensis" (as did Richters, 1903, without comment). Further research may be needed to establish whether this modified spelling was intentional and permitted under the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature
