Gibbs et al. (1984 ["1983"]) tentatively placed Phalascoma coriaceum Keferstein 1867 in Themiste. Cutler (1994:381, 140-141) listed Themiste coriacea (Keferstein, 1865) as a species inquirenda, and noted that "the type material cannot be located and there are still questions about its true nature"
