Authors Belk and Brtek (1997) express an unresolved difference over whether 4 species accounted for in their 1995 and 1997 publications in Branchinella should be retained there or moved to new and revived genera (Gurneya and Branchinellites, respectively). For now, ITIS is following the conservative approach found in those two publications, and retaining the larger Branchinella
