Comments: Originally described as a species of Mus and associated with M. edwardsi by Bonhote (1900; see history in Yong, 1970), ciliatus was subsequently arranged as a subspecies of edwardsi, whether associated with Rattus or Leopoldamys (Chasen, 1940; Corbet and Hill, 1992; Ellerman, 1941; Musser, 1981b; Musser and Carleton, 1993; Osgood, 1932).
