Comments: Placed in Capra by Van Gelder (1977b); see comments under Capra. There is no consensus concerning the number of species to be recognized in this genus; some would recognize only one (ammon; see Haltenorth, 1963:126-128); others two (ammon, canadensis; see Corbet, 1978c:218); while others recognize up to seven, as do the most recent reviews (Korobitsyna et al., 1974; Nadler et al., 1973).
