McCafferty (1997) indicated McDunnough (1939) "incorrectly formed" the name as Baetis persecuta, and emended it to Baetis persecutor, noting this was "the correct spelling of the Latin noun in apposition." Subsequent uses as B. persecutus were also noted as incorrectly formed
