Centris elegans Smith, 1874 (TSN 699035) is a junior primary homonym of Centris elegans (Smith, 1861) (originally described in Epicharis; now as Centris elegans Smith, 1874 (TSN 699035)) for which Centris gracilis Friese, 1900 was published as an unnecessary replacement name

Smith described the female of Centris elegans in his 1874 publication "A Revision of the Genera Epicharis, Centris, Eulema, and Euglossa, belonging to the Family Apidae, Section Scopulipedes" (see page 372) but did not indicate that it was a new description with an asterisk as in other new names in this article
