Schwank (1990) notes that Chaetonotus tesselatus Metschnikoff, 1863 [sic] is a lapsus pro Chaetonotus squamatus Dujardin, 1841, but that the corresponding plates do not show a Lepidodermella [genus into which Dujardin's species was combined] but a member of the invalid polyphyletic subgenus Chaetonutus (Euchaetonotus) Schwank, 1990
