The Checklist of North American Butterflies, 2nd Edition (2001) lists this as a "Neotropical species dubiously reported to have occurred naturally in the United States"

Concerning North American records, Pelham (2008:431) notes of Chlosyne erodyle (H. W. Bates, 1864), "Scudder (1875: 269), W. H. Edwards (1877: 27; 1884: 27), Strecker (1878: 127), Skinner (1898: 19) and Higgins (1960) listed this species from our area, but no authentic voucher specimens are known. See Neck (1996: 121)"
