Burukovsky (1997) indicates that Burukovsky's 1972 use of Penaeus (Farfantepenaeus) does not meet the requirements of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature for availability, so he makes the name formally available under his own authorship, with newly designated type species Penaeus brasiliensis Latreille, 1817
