Comments: Included in noctula by Corbet (1978c) and Corbet and Hill (1992), but see Tate (1942a), Yoshiyuki (1989), Zhang (1990), and L. K. Lin et al. (2002b). This name is sometimes misspelled plancei, but the correct spelling is plancyi after M. V. Collin Plancy

An issue of nomenclatural priority remains to be addressed, as the recognized subspecies labiatus (Hodgson, 1835) is senior to the overall species, plancyi (Gerbe, 1880). If this taxonomy (of Wilson, D. E., and R. A. Mittermeier, eds., 2019) is upheld then, barring an ICZN ruling, the full species should use the senior name
