Comments: Rattus rattus species group. Morphological and distributional limits outlined by Musser and Holden (1991), who also provided past historical allocations of the name. Closest relative is R. hoffmanni, which occurs in lowlands of the SW peninsula and throughout the rest of Sulawesi (see that account)
