Comments: The species is more extensively described by Heude, Mem. Hist. Nat. Emp. Chin., 2:219, pl. 40 [1894]. Known from the lectotype and paralectotype skulls, now in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica, Beijing, and a third skull recently obtained from the Annamite Range, Laos (Braun et al., 2001; Groves and Schaller, 2000; Groves et al., 1997)
