Alsobia dianthiflora, commonly referred to as the Lace Flower, is one of the two species within the Alsobia genus. This tender perennial succulent hails from regions including Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and various parts of Central and South America. Its distinctive fringe-edged petals contribute to its appeal as a houseplant, and its trailing growth habit makes it particularly suitable for hanging baskets.
The plant exhibits a stoloniferous growth pattern, producing rapidly extending stems from the leaf axils. At the ends of these stems, small plantlets form that easily take root. If left undisturbed, these can create a dense mat of plants, all potentially originating from a single parent. Specifically, Alsobia dianthiflora is characterized by its compact size and small leaves, adorned with large, frilled white flowers and numerous stolons.
As a houseplant, Alsobia thrives in warm and humid conditions, performing well under artificial lighting or on a sunny windowsill. It prefers soil that is well-draining yet retains some moisture, such as typical African Violet soil mixes.
Regarding health concerns, there are currently no known issues with diseases or pests affecting this plant.
