Phonetic Spelling:BI-denz LYE-viss

Genus:Bidens

Species:laevis

Family:Asteraceae

Bur Marigold, an annual plant belonging to the aster family, is indigenous to the coastal regions of North Carolina. Thriving in moist environments near estuaries and rivers, it can attain heights of up to 6 feet. Its vibrant yellow blossoms, featuring brown centers, continue to bloom until the first frost. However, the weight of its flowers and seeds can cause the plant to have a somewhat droopy appearance.

This species flourishes in a range of soil types, from sandy to clay, and prefers full sunlight near bogs, marshes, ponds, or streams. It is known to attract bees and butterflies and has the ability to self-seed.
