A plant genus consisting of just three species, all indigenous to California and Baja California, is named in honor of Hiram Green Bloomer, a pioneering botanist from San Francisco. These plants thrive in full to partial sunlight and produce corms that reach a height of 3 inches (7.5 cm). They are susceptible to damage when temperatures drop below 25 degrees Fahrenheit (-4 degrees Celsius).
