Family:Scrophulariaceae
Buddleja 'Miss Molly' showcases vibrant dark red-purple flowers from summer until frost. The predominant color is a rich wine red, often referred to as 'sangria,' but this can vary throughout the season, displaying deeper reds in warmer areas and more purplish tones in cooler climates. This variety blooms in its first year after planting and is relatively easy to cultivate, thriving in various soil types—though clay soil benefits from the addition of compost. For optimal growth, it requires a sunny spot and well-drained soil, as Buddlejas are sensitive to poor drainage but can withstand drought once established.
'Miss Molly' flowers on new growth and should be pruned in early spring to preserve its compact form. This hybrid cultivar is a cross between Buddleja 'Miss Ruby' and Buddleja davidii 'Attraction,' developed by Dr. Dennis Werner at North Carolina State University.
