Phonetic Spelling:bud-LEE-uh mis vahy-UH-lit
Genus:Buddleja
Species:
Family:Scrophulariaceae
Buddleja 'Miss Violet' is a hybrid introduced in 2009, resulting from the crossbreeding of Buddleja 'Miss Molly' and Buddleja 'Blue Chip,' created by Dr. Dennis Werner at North Carolina State University. This cultivar features a compact, branching, and semi-upright growth form, adorned with lush foliage. Its dark purple, fragrant blooms are a visual delight from summer through fall. Designed to be less fertile, 'Miss Violet' minimizes the risk of invasiveness commonly associated with many Buddleja davidii varieties, making it nearly seedless. It demonstrates reliable cold hardiness, although it may die back to the ground in harsher climates. In milder areas, it can be pruned in the spring to maintain its compact shape, as it flowers on new growth.
Like other members of the Buddleja family, 'Miss Violet' thrives in full sunlight and well-drained soil. Its smaller size and non-invasive nature make it suitable for various landscape settings. Additionally, it can be grown in containers, though it will need more frequent watering in that scenario. Once established, it is heat and drought tolerant, requiring weekly watering under normal conditions.
