Delicate clusters of small blue flowers adorn the stems, typically blooming for approximately two months during late summer and early autumn. Although it is technically a woody plant, in cooler climates, it dies back to the ground in winter, behaving like a herbaceous perennial.

Commonly found in mountainous regions, the Piedmont, and the Coastal Plain.
