A group of approximately 100 species, including the well-known culinary turmeric, Curcuma longa, is classified under this genus. When planting, ensure that the rhizomes are buried to a depth of 4 inches (10 cm). They are susceptible to damage if temperatures drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius). For successful propagation, each division must retain a part of the crown.
