Genus:Lilium

Species:michauxii

Family:Liliaceae

Carolina Lily, recognized as the Official Wildflower of North Carolina, is a perennial wildflower that thrives in the state's dry upland forests, slopes, and ridges, although it is less common in the coastal plains. This plant features a straight stem that can reach heights of 2 to 4 feet, adorned with whorled, thick, and fleshy leaves. During the summer, it produces fragrant flowers that are orange and yellow with distinctive speckles and strongly recurved petals. Notably, it is the only fragrant native lily found east of the Mississippi River.

For optimal growth, plant Carolina Lily in well-drained, moist soil enriched with organic matter. It requires partial sunlight, ideally receiving 4 to 6 hours of light each day to bloom effectively. Additionally, measures should be taken to protect the plant from rabbits and deer.
