Phonetic Spelling:mol-yoo-SELL-ah LYE-vis

Genus:Moluccella

Species:laevis

Family:Lamiaceae

This semi-hardy annual is recognized for its vibrant flower spikes that bloom from mid-summer through fall. The calyces are tightly clustered along the length of each spike, extending from the top nearly to the bottom. The small thorns on the stems are quite sharp. These plants thrive in cooler summer environments.

They are ideal for both fresh and dried floral arrangements. To preserve the flowers for drying, it’s recommended to cut the stems before the seeds mature and then hang them in bunches in a dry area with ample air circulation.
