Acanthaspis reuteriana: Comments
Comment:
Regarding nomenclatural confusion (and errors in prior works!), see Kerzhner (1992: 52 & 53). Horváth described Reduvius reuteri in 1892. Schouteden (1909) transferred it into Acanthaspis, where it required a replacement name due to secondary homonymy as that name was preoccupied by A. reuteri Lethierry & Severin 1896. Acanthaspis reuterianus Schouteden 1909 was the replacement name issued. In 1931 Schouteden erroneously replaced both with A. reuteriellus, but the 1909 name was neither a primary nor a secondary homonym of Reduvius reuterianus Kirkaldy 1909 (which had not been moved to Acanthaspis!). Thus the senior available name for this taxon in Acanthaspis is A. reuteriana Schouteden 1909, as Acanthaspis is treated as feminine, and all the adjectival combinations in this genus should take feminine form
