Chandler (2002) notes that Xylophilus Latreille 1825 is a junior homonym of Xylophilus Mannerheim 1823 (Coleoptera: Eucnemidae), and that the senior available name is Aderus Stephens. Apparently the various species are not yet all allocated to other genera; he points out that the single North American species, Xylophilus constrictus Fall is not a member of this genus, but cannot be placed in any described genus
