Comment:
Opinion 2021 (2005:120-121) ruled, in part, that 'nanus Peters, 1852, as published in the binomen Vespertilio nanus, [...] is to be given precedence over the name africanus Ruppell, 1842, as published in the trinomen Vespertilio pipistrellus africanus, whenever the two are considered to be synonyms.' This is why the full species uses the junior epithet over the senior one
