Griffiths and Gardner (2008:227-229) note that although Mantilla-Meluk and Baker (2006) may have been correct in recognizing Anoura aequatoralis, they retained it in synonymy of A. caudifer 'because at this time it is difficult to adequately diagnose the taxon and the entire complex currently known as A. caudifer is in need of revision'
