Comments: argenteus group. Zimmermann (1962) included A. argenteus in the subgenus Alsomys, but this allocation was questioned by Corbet (1978c:136). Based on external, cranial, dental, and chromosomal features, Musser et al. Apodemus argenteus Temminck (original combination Mus argenteus) was published in Fauna Japonica, Mamm. 51; pages 41-60 of Fauna Japonica were published in 1845 and not in 1844 (see Sherborn and Jentink, 1895: 149)
