Lynch (1964) redescribed Branchinecta coloradensis Packard 1874, B. lindahli Packard 1883, and B. packardi Pearse 1912, clearing up considerable nomenclatural confusion involving these and other taxa. According to Lynch (1964) and Eng et al. (1990), the name Branchinecta coloradensis Packard 1874 has been misapplied to other species (B. lindahli and B. lynchi, in particular)
