Concerning North American records that are referrable to other species, Pelham (2008:440) notes of Brephidium isophthalma (Herrich-Schäffer, 1862), "Variously listed for our area (e.g., L. Miller and F. Brown, 1981: 113). This is an extralimital subspecies of Brephidium exilis (Boisduval, 1852)"

Regarding the species epithet, Pelham (2008:238) notes "Species-genus gender conformation is exile"
