A homonymy with the senior mollusk family Clionidae Gray, 1840 (TSN 78086) was resolved by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature by changing the stem of the sponge type genus to Cliona-, thus changing the spelling of the family from Clionidae to Clionaidae, and removing this homonymy
