Comments: Contreras (1999) concluded that this taxon is related to a primitive stem of the genus including C. opimus - C. pundit - C. talarum. The karyotype attributed to C. knighti with a 2n=36 and FN=64 (Reig et al., 1992) are from representatives of this species
